Starting 19 July 2026, the European Union's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) prohibits large companies from destroying unsold clothing, footwear, and accessories, encouraging businesses to prioritize reuse, repair, resale, donation, and recycling instead.

While the regulation is focused on sustainability, its impact extends far beyond environmental compliance.
